R47 Calculator Explorer
What is the R47?
The R47 is a modern RPN scientific calculator, part of the C47 / R47 / WP 43 family that runs on the DM42 / DMCP hardware platform. It's a spiritual successor to the HP-42S and HP-41C, with extended precision (34 digits), complex numbers, integer bases, time-value-of-money, statistics, root-solving, numerical integration, plotting, and keystroke programming. This page lets you drive a live build of the calculator in your browser and see a plain-language explanation for every key, softkey, menu item, flag, and constant as you navigate.
What the Explorer does
- Click any key on the calculator at left — the panel at right shows that key's primary, f-shifted, and g-shifted actions with both a human description (what the thing is) and a mechanical description (what happens when you press it).
- Navigate any softmenu — press a softkey and the panel follows, showing each entry's meaning. Works for all 178 softmenus including finance (TVM, cash-flow), statistics, distributions, matrix operations, unit conversions, constants, and the function catalog.
- Global search — use the filter box to locate any function across the entire 2,666-item catalog. Searches mechanical and human descriptions.
- USER mode aware — ASN a function to a key, flip USER mode on, and the reference panel automatically reflects your custom assignments.
- Flag reference — press g+FLGS to open the system-flag browser; the right panel lists all 99+ flags by number and name with explanations, reordered to match whichever browser page the LCD is showing.
- Theme picker — choose from 18+ themes (HP Classic, HP 48G, Nord Dark/Light, Monokai, Solarized, Tokyo Night, Catppuccin Mocha, Platinum, Rose Quartz, and more) for both keys and LCD independently.
Who this is for
Anyone exploring or learning the R47, C47, WP 43, or similar modern RPN calculators — students, engineers, pilots, scientists, and long-time HP calculator enthusiasts moving from the HP-42S, HP-41C, HP-32SII, HP-15C, or a Swiss Micros DM42 to the broader R47/C47 feature set. If you've ever wondered "what does this softkey do?" or "what's flag 14 again?" or "how do I get into TVM?" — this is the page to bookmark.
